I write this letter still on a high from our first FPA golf tournament. It was a great success with 68 golfers. This is the first time our organization has come together for a social event to raise money for our chapter and our outreach efforts! Thank you to all our sponsors and members who helped make it possible. Check out the photos on our website.
It looked to my uneducated golfing eye that we had a tie for first place, but after some golf calculating the team from Conwell & Associates came in first with the Welch Group right behind them in second place. And just to show the tournament wasn’t rigged- the Kassouf/Carney team came in dead last.
This month will be our last meeting before our two month summer break (meetings resume in August). November 5th will be our annual symposium which is already in the works and promises to be a great day of CE and networking. I look forward to seeing you at our meeting this month!

Alabama PACT Update
On April 15th State Senators Roger Bedford and Jimmy Holley introduced a bill in the Senate for consideration by the Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee, which Bedford chairs. The committee passed the bill, which would turn the program over to the State Teachers Retirement System and use state funds to make sure the 48,000 people in the PACT program will have their tuition payments backed by state funds. Under the plan, the governor would be required to request an annual appropriation from the state Legislature to ensure the soundness of the program. And two- and four-year colleges and universities that accept PACT students would have to accept payment for tuition and fees set at the 2009 spring term rate, through 2012. To see the most recent copy of the bill, AMENDED SB581, go to: http://www.savealabamapact.com/data/files/Legislative%20Proposals/SB581%20NEW%20Amended%204-16-09-111399-4.pdf
